Help me ID these critters ?

I bought a beautiful 10 acre ranch from an estate which included 5 cattle, a cabin, septic tank and well, beautiful sweet grass pasture and a spring fed pond for just about nothing. Animals appear to be happy and healthy, bull has an attitude, everyone else pretty cordial. Looking to ID and start planning for the demise of 1-2 of the cows, but need breed and approximate age. Can anyone help ?

They're all a mixed bag of breeds!

Cow 1: Simmental, Red angus, with a little Brahman?? Can't tell age, but likely around 7 or 8 yrs...

Cow 2: Gelbvieh-Brangus, maybe Limousin instead of Gelbv. (hard to tell), or even a little Jersey... She could be about the same age as Cow 1.

Bull: Brangus x Am. White Park x Hereford/Simmental, etc. Bull's probably around 2 or 3 yrs old. Probably he should be on the cull list if he's starting to get an attitude with you

Calf 1 (left): Hereford, Brahman, Angus/Red Angus, Am. White Park, Simmental (possibly), etc. I'm guessing this one is ~4 or 5 mo. old.

Calf 2 (right): Red Angus, Brahman, Simmental, Gelbvieh or Limousin, etc. Likely around 3 or 4 months old.

I'd love to hear other opinions, because my estimates are just that, and not always correct!

Do you have other pictures of these critters you can share with us? I'd like to see more of the two cows and maybe the calves. Well, all of them actually, lol.

Also, for more accurate age-testing, check their teeth. Incisors and wear on the molars can tell a lot about a cow's age.

Finally, do you have any other history of the animals? I concur that the animals look to be in good shape, both the cows are at a normal condition, though I know some people would like to see them a little more fatter.

Cow 1. Illawara Cow 2 Jerseyx bull BrahmanX calves the result?

Red angusX brahma (red brangus) on #1.
#2 looks a little Jersey added into the above mix as well.
Bull looks kind of Beefmaster to me, which could/would account for the differing phenotypes of the calves.. tho he be a poor reflection of the breed standard.

IMO, the 2 cows are in poor shape to be entering winter season, unless you live in south Fla or South Texas. They aren't terrible in the above pics, but I think a photo from the rear will be more revealing and not in a positive light.

first congrats on your purchase. you can do so much with 10 acres. with the cows, first thing is sell the bull. i am assuming the calves belong to the two cows and if so they are probably bred back. if you a carnivore then one of the calves will be good groceries next fall and the other one will bring you a good paycheck. if you don't want to keep the cows at least keep them until they wean the calves or if you don't want to be in the cow business sell them as cow/calf pairs. i guess the decision all falls to what do you want to do? good luck
