what are ya'll opinions on inbreeding,don't know much about, someone who knows more about it help me out. Like could u do it just once? just thinking about in terms of rabbits used for meat/B.A.R.F.

If you only did it for one generation and used all the offspring for meat (NOT breeding) there shouldn't be much, if any, problems.

We do in-breeding all the time with no problems as long as all the off spring go no further than your freezer. In the 2 yrs of doing meat rabbits we have had no more still borns then we breed for stock and sales.

I have done the inbreeding thing many times ( like into the hundreds of rabbits ) and over many years with NO ISSUES ! I have even done it with sheep and horses with no issues . (Example: The Morgan horse breed ... every one of them trace back to ONE stallion named Justin Morgan ) ( Any purebred breed of animal depended on inbreeding to set the wanted type / characteristic). I have done the inbreeding thing with a line of laboratory mice for 27 generations ( this was the time before cloning and we needed to have laboratory mice as genetically close to the original mouse as possible for serology work ) at a major University with NO issues. Unless one has a lethal or unwanted dominant or recessive characteristic in the gene pool, there shouldn't be any problem.

There's a sort of joke that goes, "if it works for you, it's called linebreeding; if you have problems, it's inbreeding." Breeding closely related individuals together is the best way to "fix" a trait in a population, whether it is good or bad. You certainly can breed closely related animals together, you just have to keep focused on what you are trying to achieve and ruthlessly cull any animals that don't make the grade.
