we have three goats a boer and two spanish. So when a friend of ours had a baby boer/spanish mix nanny that he had to find a home for we were the people he called. Our babies are three and are all weathered and one nanny so no babies there. Anyway we got Bebe at three weeks old to days ago and ws told she ate regular whole milk. I thought that was strange but our neighbors said that it was quit normal. However they had some " nurse all " that they fed their baby goats for show so we decided that it might have more of the stuff she needs than cow milk. we fed her three times a day 8 oz and she has free run of my backyard with the dogs she loves. She got some bad diarreah which we thought was from the change of food. Well that seams to be going away but now she is not eating her bottle. She only ate two of them today and we are worried. She belongs to my 12 year old son who is so proud of her I would hate for something to happen to her.

I am not familiar with Nurse All is that a milk replacer? You definately want her getting a Goat Milk replacer. Is she eatting at grass? Are you offering her anything else besides Milke Replacer?

Accurately describe her poop.
Also maybe take her temperature.
How is she acting quiet and stand offish or hoping around like normal?

Hopefully Kate (helmstead) or others will be along.

I haven't heard of Nurse all, either. Would recommend Kid or at least lamb milk replacer. Also would suggest a teaspoon of baking soda in the milk, in case of tummy upset. Three weeks old might need a bit More than 8 oz a feeding....

( just a side thought... if the dogs are Really active...she might be racing around more than she would "normally"... that might churn up the stomach a bit more...)

So often with these critters, it is trial and error ! (they give us the trial...and we error...)

Go back to the cow's milk. We raise almost all of our kids on it, it's fine. Milk replacers tend to cause scouring. You can add Poly Vi Sol to the bottles for vitamins and minerals (.5 cc once a day) to boost the cows milk if you desire.

Also, her age is perfect for cocci. Begin a treatment course of Albon or Dimethox. ASAP. When they stop wanting to eat, they're in serious distress. Also give B Complex daily. If she's having solid stools, you might also try some Milk of Magnesia 3-4 cc, Maylox (3 cc) and a soapy enema to make sure she didn't clog up. (BTW, readers, cocci can cause either scours OR constipation!)

A full sized goat kid needs WAY more than 8 oz - my Mini Nubian and full blooded Nubian kids get more like 20 oz per feeding.

Please update with any changes. Please get on this fast...babies don't take long to crash.

new update lol we feel really stupid we miss read the instructions poor baby was given concentrated food instead of the mix she was supose to we just did not add enough water. She is now getting the right mix and loving it more thatn before. She is also running and bouncing like she should be. Thank you lord for letting us make mistakes that did not hurt our new baby. Thanks guys
