Guess I didn't express myself clearly. I really don't think that eggs would hurt a cow/calf, but I would guess that they wouldn't readily eat them because of the strange taste. I was concerned that since the calf isn't eating very much, that the eggs would cause him to refuse the pellets.

And---yes, I'm certainly old enough to remember a lot of things, and also old enough to forget a lot, but here in South Dakota, we eat the eggs ourselves in the morning with bacon, fried potatoes, and coffee. MUCH better than feeding them to a sick calf.

Thanks one and all for your advice and suggestions. I appreciate each one of you that took the time to write to me. You are all very kind, especially to a newby like me.

I rang a friend of mine who is a mobile butcher. He shot Jimmy for me as I couldn't take it anymore. The poor baby had been in a coma state all day and was in a bad way by lunchtime. It was very quick and Dave organised for someone to collect it for me so I didn't have to dig a hole. We have a terrible wild dog problem here and do not want to encourage it with dumped carcasses.

Again thanks one and all.... been brave all day.....off to go and cry buckets now!

I make a terrible farmer. I just love them to bits.
