I thought of meningeal, listeria and bacterial infection. I don't think that is the case here because any of these woudl have killed the buck within a day or two without treatment.


I really think this is a case where his hooves got so bad his legs were getting sore from having to adjust his gait. I recommend checking the hooves every few days and trimming a little at a time. If I am correct, this won't be fixed in one trimming. It is going to take a while.

Don't kick yourself over it. Goats are a steep learning curve.

first off let me tell you all thanks for your replies!!!:D first thing I did was go home and trim his hooves. of course it didn't look like it had helped until the next morning, but he is much improved!!!! I need to do more trimming on his hooves. his front feet were also bad. that is my project for Thursday, going to trim them to even them all up a little every few days. no hoof rot or scald that I can tell. other than stinky billy he smells fine! lol I also think that he does have some age to him. I checked his teeth. they are worn pretty far down and I think his age, coupled with bad hooves, and nannies in heat just got to him. Thanks again for all of the help!!
