In an effort to organize information in a manner that benefits our members the most we've decided to move the "Herds General" forum to be between the "News, Information & Feedback" and "Goats" forums.
The Herds General forum contains categories that apply to all herd owners such as:
Emergencies, Injuries and Cures
An issue is considered an emergency if the very life of the animal or it's offspring is at stake. (For example: Lice is not an emergency and should go in the appropriate diseases forum). By posting your emergency in this section rather than the individual disease section per species you allow yourself a broader member response. Most herd owners can assist you even if they don't own the same species that you do. For example: Birthing complications cross the species barrier, as does things such as pneumonia and scours.
This area is also to be used to discuss non life threatening injuries and "cures".
For more information see the Emergencies, Injuries and Cures Forum Guidelines
Fencing, Housing, Manure Management
Many fences and barns contain more than one species. Manure management practices cross species barriers as well. The only difference is the size of said manure
Predators and Pests
The bane of any livestock farmer is the predator and pest. And I for one know that should I have a problem with one of these that I want it gone - quickly and efficiently. The more members that can assist you with this the quicker the problem can be solved and the pest be banished.
Equipment & Supplies
Everything from feeders to waterers to leads and harnesses and more.
Showing Your Herd
Do you show professionally? 4H? Post your questions and experiences here.
This section has long been under utilized. It's our thought that in moving it more toward the top of the forum listing that more members will take advantage of this great opportunity to share with a broader base of members.
What can you do to help BYH Staff in our organizational effort?
1) Place your threads on these subjects in the appropriate Herds General forum.
As always we ask that highly species specific threads go in the species appropriate forum.
2) Report any thread that would be a good fit for these forums using the report button and stating why and where it should be moved.
3) Continue offering us feedback and ideas! This community is full of great members and great ideas and we love it when you share!
