I am an active member on BYC who has decided to look into getting goats this year. Other than the goat 4H, I am also currently in a 4H project for swine. I don't have any goats yet, but I am here to learn more about them so I will be prepared.

Congratulations on your new doelings! They are pretty. What are your plans for your does? Do you want to milk them someday or are they strictly pets? Last June, we bought 3 Nigerian does, and this Christmas we got 2 bucklings so we can breed and milk the females (hopefully!) when they are old enough. I love having goats. They seem like a good fit for our little property.

I plan to breed them in the fall (they are 9 and 10 months old) once they make weight. Also planning to show them, and keep them for milk. Its super exciting! I will likely find a stud for them, as I don't think I would be able to keep up with cleaning a buck.

That sounds exciting! Keep us updated! Mine will be a year old in April. I was hoping to breed them in the spring, but I think they may be a bit small yet.
