How much pen g per dose and just once daily? Sub q right? This is safe to if pregnant....I thought I heard it was? I did try the soaks she did not like her foot in the water.

Thank you!

When they are that big, it can take a lot longer for the hoof to heal up. You might start her on some PEN G for about 10 days. Last year, Mama, my doe, got hoof rot when she was 4 weeks away from her due date. It took 3 weeks before she was walking without a limp, poor baby.

Also, you can try some Hot water soaks with betadine and salt added about twice a day on the affected foot before putting on the copper tox. (It is what my vet recommended when Mama got hoof rot.) It can do wonders for the hoof rot. Just stick her foot right in a bucket of hot water (no hotter than you can put your hand in comfortably) and keep it there for about 10 minutes. She won't like it at first, but she will eventually start to cooperate pretty well. You will have to have her up on the milk stand to do it though.

They don't like to have their feet in water but they do get used to it. And you just keep moving the bucket when they pull it out, then they have to put their foot back down... into the water. LOL. They have not choice. The other way is to hold the ligament on their leg above the hock. Then they can't lift the foot out of the water.

Yes I know I will start that again. I asked you questions on the Pen-G do you know the answers? It says 1 ml per 100lbs of body weight and not to give no more then 4 days usually will see it working in 2-3 days and only give a day after you dont see the issues no more? I cleaned and sprayed them again today and then left for a few hours and now she cant even bear weight on that one foot. So I guess I need to start this asap and hope it helps. I will call my vet in the am too and see what they recommend.

Thank you!

Anybody? I would like to give this to her tonight. I have had it sitting out for a while. I think this is the one that said not to inject it cold. Thank you for any help!

This is what I have and I guess super concentrated and only given IM? Can this kind be given to goats and can it be given sq or not? It is

I am guessing her weight at 175 lbs and have 1 3/4 ml drawn up....I will put in frig for tonight. Can I use this tomorrow? If not I can draw up more.

She is pregnant by the way if that matters.

Aqueous? What does this mean exactly? I read once a day on this kind....is that right too?

Just make sure your bottle says 300,000 units procain penicillin per ml and you should be fine to follow her instructions. Aqueous is just the mix of the solution, I think it's powder mixed in a liquid to make it soluble. :D Good luck!

Still confused....I seen all that but this says 1ml per 100 lbs of body weight and sounded like once a day. This way it would be 1 3/4 ml once daily for no more then 4 days.

Everything else I read says.....2 times per day and 1ml per 15-25 lbs of body weight? I am figuring she is 175 that is a big difference in ml I would give. I seen this said up to 10 days.

I have a call into my vet but she is in surgery now.

Are the instructions you're reading for goats? They tend to get treated differently with meds :hu, I'd just wait for your vet to get back to you, so you feel confident that you have the right dose. I hate that unsure feeling when I'm medicating animals!

I did talk to my vet and she is saying the same I read everywhere on line but she said she would be interested in seeing this bottle lol....so I am gonna take it in next time I go into town. I will keep treating it with kopper tox everyday and foot soaks. Also the vet said that iodine/betadine will dry it out too...but to make it like a weak tea solution first before applying to area.

The vet is recommending tetracycline (sp) but says if my doe is almost due she said it should be ok to give....so may pick some of that up too when I am there.

My other doe had 1 kid/1 doeling tonight....yay....nice surprise to come home to was just born. Hopefully we get to film and see the others have their kids.

I thought the doe in this thread should explode anyday now lol....she is so big.
