I'm a new member and I currently have 2 horses, 1 mule, 4 dogs, 2 rabbits, 8 chickens and 2 new Nigerian dewarf does that I just got yesterday! Plus I have 2 kiddos and a husband and live on 7 1/2 acres! I was wondering should my goats be on the same hoof trimming schedule as my equines are as in every 6-8 weeks? Also one of my does has some huge cysts on her and one of them accidentally popped this morning and was oozing yellow thick puss! What is the best most inexpensive way to clean it? Do I go ahead and squeeze the rest out? I'm totally new to owning goats and was given these goats for free yesterday by a good friend who rescued them 2 weeks ago from a lady who was over breeding them and basically abusing them! They are not used to human interaction so we have them tied up while we are home so we can mess with them and when we leave we put them in our chicken coup which is a lean to shed that has 3 sides and the front is all fencing with a door! Please help me out these goats look sickly but they have been vaccinated and are acting just fine!

Welcome from NW Mississippi!!....:frow
We have goats, chickens, ducks, and cats here on our 20acres. Sorry that your new goats are having such problems, I'm unfamiliar with what ya are facing, so I'll tag some experts for ya that can assist ya with that situation, @Goat Whisperer , @Southern by choice , @babsbag , @goatgurl , @OneFineAcre ....these will give ya great advice and there are others that are experts too that may join in. Hope they get better.
Also, something that will be very beneficial, is to give your general location, this will help in explaining possible causes and to treatment in order to control the source of the issue. What is seen here in Mississippi can be totally different than in Oregan or Maine.
Again.....:welcome

Goats can get lumps and abscesses but considering these were "rescue" goats there is a high probability they have the disease CL.

These Cysts sound like abscesses.
If it is CL (Caseous Lymphadenitis ) then you have a problem.
You need to take this goat to the vet or have vet out. Pus needs to be cultured asap.
If it is CL and it has burst your ground is now infected. Isolating her anyway is still beneficial.

Greetings and welcome to BYH. Sorry you have to start out right off the bat with possible nightmare news. Cysts are not a good thing and as outlined above could represent a rather bad problem if it turns out its CL. You also want to be careful keeping them in with your chickens as they LOVE chicken feed and will eat it to the point that it can cause them to bloat. Another not fun situation on top of the cycsts. This can kill them... fast. I'm sorry to say that your good friend may not have done you or herself any favors by taking these goats. Probably would have been far better to get the humane society involved, and I don't say that lightly as I don't care for them or some of their practices...

Anyway, please browse around the forums and jump in when you feel the call. Make yourself at home. Please consider putting at least your general location in your profile as it may have bearing on any recommendations to questions you ask. Oh, and pictures always help when you have an issue you need help with.
