Why do hogs not breed? One boar and one sow grew up together. Weigh in at about 250-275 pounds each. They are both over a year old. Do I need to be patient or should I consider butcher. Climate right now is warm here in Central New York.

If your gilt is dominant you may need to take either one for a ride around the countryside for an hour or so maybe less then re-enter into the pen or pasture. Or try another boar. Also diet can be the culprit ... I would bet the gilt is dominant in most cases though. Jmo...

What's the breed? 250-275 lbs. seems a bit small for them if they are over a year old. Have you noticed any heat cycles with the gilt? Is her vulva ever a pinkish-red with a slight blood discharge?
