Same here, trimming is good prevention - but, just for good measure I always have some Dr. Naylor's hoof and heel (it's a zinc sul. solution), I pour it in a small pan and dip each hoof after trimming.
I've read good things about the formaldehyde, but I'm not sure where to get it. Something else maybe worth trying, Premiere has a thick, oily type of stuff (I can't remember what they call it) but I think it would be great for really wet areas because it doesn't just wash off. I may try it in the near future.....
Oh, I also use hydrated lime in the loafing area. It helps dry things out and the sheep get it on their feet, especially at night when they come in. So their feet can dry out over night. The lime has another benefit, in summer it keeps flies from breeding - always a good thing!
