Does anyone know where to get an inexpensive, but well trained horse? I know there is probably not many places, much less places in the NW.

Well.... maybe you could find a very well trained horse, for not much money... because it is now very old, or no longer fully sound.

But a well trained, rideable horse.... yes, will cost a great deal.

And baymule is right... everything about horses is pricey.

Gorgeous, wonderful, expensive beasts.

You will not find a well-trained horse for much less than $5,000. There are some horses for $500 but some of those horses are wild and only halter broke, some may even be broken into. Try this website here to look for some horses-https://www.equinenow.com/

Wish you the best of luck!!!

Then --- you MAY LUCK OUT and find a horse being rehomed by a caring owner, who has to have help for any number of reasons. Keep looking.

A couple lovely, well broke, excellent condition...were being sold near me by owners who have been presented with their own health issues. I would have loved one but, best for both to stay together. A situation which I could respect.

I myself, sold my horses recently for cheap, cheap because of circumstances. But that allowed me to screen the many people who responded, for the best families and homes for my beloved horses.

I have seen horses for a few hundred at riding stables. Likely to settle a debt because an owner passed away, couldn’t pay or just didn’t want to pay.
