I have a five month old Dwarf Nigerian buckling who seems very small. He is supposed to be ready to breed in a few short months but her doesn't look nearly big enough to reach my yearling girls. I haven't actually weighed or measured him yet. What is the average size of a buckling his age?

I thought they could start breeding at 8 weeks or so.
I bet he an get the job done, but if he isn't full grown, do you know if he is a good fit with your doe? I'm new to this too.

They are capable of breeding at 8 weeks. That doesn't necessarily mean he can reach high enough to get the job done with a mature doe.

You mostly have to worry about young bucks breeding a young doe that they can reach that you don't want them to breed because the doe is to young.

Now as to the original post, why don't you post a picture of the little guy. If he's 5 months old, chances are he'll be able to get it done in a couple months.

I'll try and get one later today. I have a hard time because he wants to have his face an inch away from the camera. Such a sweet boy...til he goes into rut.
