Our doe kidded (finally!) on 3/10/11, so it's been a week. We've been trying her milk, and it still tastes a bit "off." Guess we're just impatient  My question is, what can I do with the milk? It still doesn't taste good enough to drink, although each day it gets better. Can I make cheese out of it? Use it for cooking (or will it make the dish taste wierd)? I do have quite a bit in the freezer for the "just in case" colostrum use.

I agree with Free!! Give it another week or so and it'll get better. I always wait a while before I use it when they are nursing anyway.

Enjoy your new baby!! :)

That's kind of what I thought...rats! I hate to waste all those gallons of milk.:droolCan't wait to have all we want again (we've been drinking the frozen I put up from last year to get us through)! Thanks for giving me the benefit of your experience.

Why would you need to waste it??

If you have almost any other type of animal you can give it to them...cats, pigs, chickens...?

Maybe you could use it for soap? I don't make soap so I really don't know for sure, but I'm sure someone here does.

Depending on what you mean by "off" I would mix it with an instant breakfast packet or definately MAKE SOAP! I would also not think twice about cooking with it. As long as you're confident that it was not contaminated...

It may be your taste buds that are "off" ...lol. We all get very used to the milk we drink.

When my sister was young and moved to California from NY with her Army DH...her only complaint was that "the milk tastes funny".
Must be Cali cows eat different stuff than NY cows....didn't mean that Cali milk was "off"... she tried every brand. Just tasted "funny".
