How did this happen?? Pregnant Emergency!

I bred my doe last week and im pretty sure it was successful. Well, today when i went to feed the rabbits, i found the Doe in the Bucks cage!! There was a lot of pulled fur, like they had a struggle. I have no clue how she got in there! The top of the cages are about 2 feet high, with the lid on the top. The top is clothes-pinned shut, so they cant open it. They have NEVER escaped before. When i walked in, the does cage was open and the bucks was closed, with both of them in there. How did this happen? Do you think she would willingly jump into the bucks cage? The rabbits are in a public farm, so they could potentially have a lot of visitors. Do you think she escaped and jumped in (2 foot jump) or do you think someone PUT her in the bucks cage and left?


If she was bred this time, will she abort both litters? I bred he last week, and this happened today. Im sure she got bred because she spent all night in there (i found her in the morning)

Part of the reason the fur flew could be the doe defending herself from the buck's advances. If you bred her last week and IF she conceived, it is very possible that she did not allow the buck to breed this go around. Check out your buck - is he missing the fur? Does can be very aggressive defending themselves.

Of course, the buck also could have pursued her and overpowered her if he was really persistent. Even so, if the doe doesn't lift for the buck, the likelihood of breeding happening is really, really small. He may have just pulled fur and bit ears, etc., to TRY to get the doe to accept him.

If she did get pregnant, it is likely that the 2nd litter will be delivered prematurely when the first breeding's kits are born. At 10 days early, the 2nd litter kits will not be viable and most likely stillborn.

so lets say she delivers the first litter and the next one a few days later. What are the chances one litter would be alive? I really need this litter, so i dont want both to be born still

There is every reason to expect that the full-term kits would be born healthy and fine. The 2nd breeding kits would only be at 22-23 days gestation (specifically whatever the number of days is between breedings). That is way too early; they won't be viable.
