Hi, I ve been lurking here for a long time! Im somewhat new to goats (less than 2 years, So I hope you all can help me!:)
Gracie gave birth to twins two days ago and today the little fella has the yellow orange poop blob stuck to him, and I dont remember how to clean it off of him without hurting him, I would greatly appreciate some advice.

Goats are really tough, if he is screeching, it is probably more about being restrained than any discomfort from having his bottom cleaned. I use an old washcloth and a bucket of warm water. Pick most of the glob off first with a paper towel or better yet, some leaves (then you don't have to deal with a poopy paper towel. :p )

Congrats on the twins!

Sometimes mom will clean them off, too. My doe (who was an experienced mom, btw) took care of literally everything thankfully so my kids were never with dirty bottoms.

But, not everyone gets lucky with a doe like mine, so I do what free does in other cases...warm water with no soap (don't want anyone ingesting soap!) usually does the trick. If it's really hard and stuck, maybe try softening it with patroleum jelly or something along those lines.

I've found it's MUCH easier to get off if you let it dry, then just comb it out....a 30 second job compared to a 10 minute one. (Plus, my kids are usually born Jan-March, and I hate to get them wet when it's that cold out.)

I agree with Roll...but do stay on top of it. If you don't keep it cleaned well, it can 'clog the works' as it builds up.

I tend to stand there cursing the mommy while I clean that off, LOL..."Bad mommy! Do your job!" :rant

I agree with let the poop dry and brush or comb. Depending on the tempature where you live, you dont really want to get them wet. But if you must wet them warm water only. No soap for certain. Then dry them well with a towel and brush...but I would only use water if you absolutely have to..you dont want their parts to get clogged so see what you can actually get clean with no water first. :)

Good luck...happy poop cleaning! ;)

Our last kid was a bit messy and I used hydrogen peroxide. Its not toxic and eats the blood right off. After most of the mess was gone, we did what everyone else does. Hot/warm water!
