I am going to use a heated bucket and run the cord out the wall so they can't get to it, of course I only have two goats....
We started with 3

I keep telling my wife and daughter we need to quit "accumulating" goats. On top of the natural reproduction, drove 8 hours this summer to buy 1. Came back with 3. Made the trip seem more worthwhile

 That is what I am worried about!!! I already want to get a Guernsey buck!!! and I know where that would lead, MORE DOES, I am so bad, when I start something I am consumed by it! I think goats are the answer to my problem about what to raise on my 2.5 acres though. I will have plenty of room for them to play and eat some grass or probably more likely the trees..... But by starting small it will give me time to get my fences modified. Can't wait till spring for BABIES!!

SO I tried that ball thing because I've heard it before and it didn't work. Ducks were still bill skating this morning.
I was wondering about the ball idea.... I think maybe if the goats are curious about the ball, they would 'play' with it. Therefore...ice can't form on the surface each time they move the ball? It may work on area with just at freezing temp?

I don't have a Guernsey doe YET......:/ but there is a farm not far from me............ My long term goal is to get into this breed, but I think I can start with a buck would be cheaper, then when hubby sees how wonderful goats are and impressive the Guernsey buck is he will be all for getting does....

time will tell!

We aren't as cold as some places. It gets down to about 25-30 at night. We don't have snow.

Cool. I don't know much about them but they are neat goats, from what I know. And they look cool. :)

Use your heater and run the cord threw PVC piping, of course you will have to attach the pvc pipe
to the barn or gate something to keep it still, and trying feeding the goats more hay, until they don't
finish it all, then you will know at what amount they will need per day.

The water does freeze around the ball. But the layer of ice around the ball has been very thin IME.
