We have Alpines..I have one going on 17 months fresh and another who is over 19 months fresh. Neither one took last fall and we decided to see how long they'd go, however I am voluntarily drying off one since we are getting too much milk! Neither one is showing any sign of reduced production on their own.

We have one doe that is going on 15 months since freshening, she still gives about a gallon a day. But she had triplets, and nursed them until they were weaned.

From what I have expereniced, the higher number of kids born, the greater amount of milk that is produced. And at around two years from freshening, the milk supply begins to be a bit less.

Alpines... they are the best for milk production! One of my Alpine girls was still giving a gallon and a half a day when I dried her off after 14 months.
