If I want a goat for a pet, should I get a doe or a wethered male?

I've heard that bucks can be mean and smelly, especially during breeding season, and so I definitally want to steer clear from one of them. But do wetherd males have these charactiristics too?

I actually do NOT want milk. I love goat milk/goat cheese, but I couldn't milk the goat daily, so that doesn't matter (if a doe isn't bred, she will never produce milk, right?)

So which would make a better pet? Which one is sweeter and freindlier? And quieter ;)

Thanks!

I have both wethered males and does. I think both make great pets, as that is all mine are for. No, un-bred does will not produce milk, so you won't have to worry about milking them. Wethered males also will not have the "buck" smell, so no worries there. I would recomend at least getting two goats though, as they will get lonely and bored if they are kept by themselves. I have Nigerian Dwarfs and they are sweet and gentle. I hope this helps!

I understand a goat needs a freind- I'm actually thinking about getting a mini horse instead :) So she/he will have a freind. I would get them at the same age so they bond.

(I have a different post about if that would work on not, so if you have anything to say on that matter, could you please post it there? Thanks)

Two wethers would be great pets and would be less expensive than a doe. You could probably get two wethers for the cost of ONE doe actually.

I would get two wethers, does go into heat every 3 weeks and most of the time they scream. Wethers are also cheaper then does.

Go with two does! They have so much personality and their sassy attitude is actually so funny. I feel like they have more of a drive to be your friend. As for the heat, I have had two does for 2 years, and multiple does in the past, and I can't even tell when they are in heat. Breeding bucks are in vicinity as well. Does all the way! Sorry, I am sort of biased, as I had a really mean wether and my baby right now is a doe.
