My hubby's been on BYH for a couple of weeks so I figured I should come aboard too. New to backyard farming/Homesteading. It all started with our sons preschool class talking about baby chicks. My hubby brought home some eggs, we incubated them and TADA! My sons favorite hen turned out to be a he and we weren't zoned..so long story short we moved to agricultural for our rooster (son)
My hubby's family raised cattle in Missouri and my family bred horses in California....and somehow we ended up in Utah raising:
4 kids under 5
Bebe our mini schnauzer/oldest child/amazing livestock guardian
Bubba the bullfrog
Bones McCoi the Koi
GoGo the Garter snake
10 6 mo. old chickens:
Jet (Australorp rooster aka master of the universe)
Rocky (Barred Rock)
Ariel (Americana)
Robin Hood (Leghorn)
Fluffy the butthole (12 toed black silkie bantam- want him?)
Widget (Tiny Japanese Bantam)
Ginger (hatched mixed breed)
Jordan (hatched mixed breed)
Lucky (hatched mixed breed)
John 316 (hatched mixed breed)
Baby/Big Mac-adorable jersey
about 30 eggs in my hubby's new and improved incubator
AND GROWING!
We're switching things up and relearning the lost art of self sufficiency Open to any tips or suggestions or just words of encouragement.
