Well, my first question is if there are any breeders of Hereford or Mini Herefords in Indiana (or surrounding states-ky,oh,il,mi) on here? I have found a few sites, but mainly (from what I see) they all do auctions at the farm. Is this the only way to buy cattle? Also, do mini's eat less than the standards? Ive heard they eat as much or even more, but anyone have experience with this? I grew up on a farm with angus/hereford crosses, but never got into it until I married my husband and once he is out of the military (very soon) we are moving back to Indiana and are planning on buying a few different animals :) Any info is great!!

Miniature herefords are registered with the american hereford assoc. on their papers you have no idea their size. They have just been bred shorter. The hereford assoc has a breeder page, miniature hereford assoc has a directory, north american miniature assoc is fairly new assoc. They are not tiny 700-1000lbs under 43inches tall. I have found most breeders sale on farm, there are a few registered hereford sales , and online auctions. Hope this helps. This is our first year showing minis.

In my neck of the woods Econ 101 applies ... when one buys 1/2 size cow, one pays 2x $$$s as for a normal size cow . Time to sell 1/2 size cow, receive 1/2 $$$s of regular size cow at auction, unless one is lucky enough to find a succer to pay 2x $$$s. :idunno

There is a farm near Charleston IL. His farm is Hickory ridge farms. He has mini herefords and other minis. There is one in Indiana too. I think their farm is mini moo farms or something similar. They both sell calves on their websites.
