I'm new to rabbits, at least this time, it's been years since I have had any & I'm needing some advice here. I had some young rabbits I had to move into a cage together temporarily due to keeping someone else's rabbits for a couple days & for lack of cage space. Anyway, two of them got into a fight & one little doe got a nasty wound to her eye. It looks like some of the eyelid is kind of flapped back & her eye looks terrible, it's red & draining. I read that rabbits are very sensitive to antibiotics & there aren't that many they can tolerate. What is the best way to treat this wound other than cleaning it & keeping the drainage from gooping the eye shut. Is there any ointment I can get or what is best to clean this with & is there anything I can flush the eye with. I hate to see this little doe lose her eye over this injury. Any help would be appreciated.

Two suggestions, Veterycin Eye Wash to clean out the eye and then Terramycin Opthalmic Ointment for the eye. You can get both of these at TSC or a feed store. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the reply. I did get some of the antibiotic ointment you suggested at the CO-OP & it seems to be helping. I also ordered the vetericyn, but it hasn't come yet. At least I'll have it for next time if nothing else. I think her eye is going to be all right, I don't know about the eyelid, but at least she will be able to see.
