Is 17 weeks old too old to band? (and maybe a few other ?'s)

I have a buyer for my two 17 week old bucklings but they would like them wethered. Have I waited too long or can I still band? Also, I have read that I can give children's tylenol before. How much and in what form? And they have never had any shots, should I do CDT vaccine first?
I'm very nervous about this, have never banded before and my two boys are so sweet, I'm afraid their not going to trust people anymore after this.

I banded my boys at 8 weeks. I think the key is, CAN YOU GET THE BAND STRETCHED WIDE ENOUGH TO GO OVER THE TESTICLES? There was no problem as far as the pain was concerned. They were running around like normal as soon as the procedure was over.

You have to be very careful to not get the band too far up on the stomach, as that can cause problems.

Also, don't get a teat inside the banding.

Hope this helps.

Thanks DonnaBelle
I am concerned about getting the band over them, and also concerned about this being even more traumatic since they are 17 weeks old. I do have a burdizzo that I purchased a while back after reading on fias Co farm, but then after reading on here it seems banding is the way to go. But, since they are so old, maybe I should just try the burdizzo. :idunno

one at a time, I am sure you can get them through. shouldn't be a big deal.

We did our first 2 this year and it really wasn't that big of a deal. Just pay attention and get the placement right.

Ours didn't even act like they felt it after the band was placed.

Now they're all shriveled up and waiting to fall off.

I did swab them with iodine before the banding.

They're minis? They might fit. I can tell you that my 12 week old buckling's testicles absolutely would not fit through the bander, even 1 at a time. Not sure about minis though.

Yeah, that little rubber band stretcher was a joke next to those big suckers. There was no getting even one through at a time. But we did try
Ended up using the burdizzo and only time will tell if it worked. My DH and our neighbor did it for me, bless his heart, so I didn't have to hear their cries. He said it wasn't bad, after the initial crunch the fight went out of them. They did lay down and sulk for the rest of the evening but seem themselves today. And they still love me. If this works I think it will be the method we will use in the future.
