Has anyone done it. I'm sure I'll need the vet to do it, but just wondering if it has any effect on the buck, other than making it so he can run with the girls all the time and no worries. I don't want any more breeding happening but want to keep this guy since he is such a sweetheart.

I know a lady near us, pretty famous Nigerian breeder "Caesar Villa" who retired from breeding a few years ago. We were going to GA to buy some goats, and the breeder in GA was getting three of her bucks. So, we made a deal to take the bucks to him.
And in return, at his recommendation we bought Zamia. Best deal I've ever had concerning a goat.:thumbsup

So, anyway she was keeping a few older goats as pets and two of them were older bucks. She had the vet castrate them so they could run with the girls.

Yes, it okay to do but it definitely needs to be surgically done by someone who knows how (vet is a good choice). It will take weeks for him to be completely sterile so just make sure he is separated until healed up and he will be good to go. As an adult, he will probably still pee on himself, mount does, and act bucky though. He might be a bit more gentle and not smell as much.

Oh for sure the vet will be doing it. And he is already such a lovey boy, still would get on my lap if I would let him. A bit less pee-ing and stink would be nice though.
