This past june i picked up my jersey cow, Annabell, from a dairy farmer. She is 3 years old as of July 5th. He gave me paperwork stating that they had bred her in April and she would be due in February. At 4 months along i am not expecting to see her midsection expand a whole lot. But whem we first got her she attempted to jump out a barn window and came down on her stomach. She slid the rest of the way out of the window and didnt seem to be phased by it. But i am worried that perhaps that may have injured or caused her to abort the calf. I read that at 2 months the calf is very small and in the pelvic floor as opposed to the abdomen. But she has shown no signs of pregnancy since the incident. About how far along would i expect to see her midsection expand? i have read so many different things at different sites.

From what I know you won't see her midsection expand until she's near the end of her second trimester and starting the third.

Hope she's calmed down some--she sounds a bit wild if she tried to jump out a barn window. :ep

She has calmed down and is extremely friendly now. Getting her from a dairy farm she was afraid of people when we first got her. Would stress from introducing 2 horses into the pasture and paddock? I know the gelding appaloosa, Koda, tends to chase here every now and again.

Have you noticed any behavior that might look like she's in heat? Bellowing, mounting other cows, etc.? As WRB said, she won't be showing at 4 months. If it is important to you that she be bred, I would think about having the vet preg check her. 'Showing' varies drastically--depends a lot on age, weight, etc. She'd more than likely have to be at least 7 months along before you'd be able to guess.

Thanks. As of yet i havent seen obvious signs of her being in heat, but we dont have any other cows for her to mount or anything. Just 2 horses she wont let near her. I was mostly worried that her jumping through the window and coming down on her midsection would do damage. Thanks for the help and advice!

If she's smart enough to not let the horses near her (and thus prevent them from picking on her....since horses will pick on and boss around animals they see as beings lower than themselves), I highly doubt it. But if I were you I'd maybe separate her from them when she gets closer to her due date.
