Is the BYH format going to change like BYC did?

Very glad to hear the great comments and feedback!

We don't have a timeline in place, and like was mentioned, we want to make sure the dust settles on BYC first (and then maybe a little break) before we dive into another conversion.

With that said, this site upgrading will be even more advantageous than BYC, simply because of all the stuff we never built here (like the breeds DB, etc.)

I found out about the Back Yard Herds Website from Back Yard Chickens! We currently only have some Rhode Island Reds & Barred Rock Chickens, as well as, one pot belly pig! Future plans include Pygmy Goats as well when we clean up the mess left by the previous owner! Look forward to using this site a lot. Enjoy the day ...... Luke :-0)))))))

A disaster site. :/ Difficult to post pics, difficult to insert, copy, paste, etc. In a nutshell, it is just not easy to use, visualize or navigate....I find myself dreading it when I feel inclined to post.

It isn't any slower with my browser but it definitely is just too busy, too many buttons to push to get the same thing we accomplished with just a few clicks previously and too much of a hassle to bother with. I find myself going there rarely now.

If these other forums follow suit, it is only a matter of time before I will drift off to an easier site to navigate. I already didn't have the time I spend on these forums to waste but now I find I have to waste more time in my time wasting efforts. Double the time wasted, which is something even I can't really justify...a person has to stand up and walk around eventually or you grow to your chair. :p

What is this about changing the website? What does the BYC website look like?
We are not changing websites. We are changing our operating platform. Kind of like when windows went from Vista to Windows 7....it's still windows just a different look and feel.

The move for the sister sites (including BYH) is probably months off - there is no date set for it yet. But I would encourage everyone to pop into BYC and putter around to get used to the new platform ahead of time.

Keep in mind that there are some bugs that are being worked out there still. It is different and change is sometimes hard...but the things that we will gain are tremendous.

Beekissed...if you want, you can shoot me a pm and we will see if we can tweak your BYC settings and make it easier. I'd hate to lose you around here!

Well, I have the right browser and the right settings, it seems....but you still have to go the long way around to get what you used to get easily before. I understand that they wanted/needed to change, I guess, but it doesn't change the fact that it is no longer pleasant to use.

You can putter with it all you want, if it isn't a fast and easy forum, it won't get the action it had previously. That is the reason I don't participate in all the other forums on the net...they are slow, clunky, difficult to read because the print is so tiny, etc.

When you take a great format and change to a bad one, you can get as familiar with it as you can but it still makes it a bad format.

Change is something I do well...been changing every day for most of my life. I'm adaptable to just about anything...I'm a nurse, adapting is what we do every second of every day. One thing I won't change, however, is saying something is good when it clearly is a bad idea. Gotta call a spade a spade.

It is a bad idea, a poorly designed format, and will never have ease of use in it's present form.

Unfortunately the "present" form (or the old form when it comes to BYC) was about to crash and lose all data with it. It just would not have survived the Spring rush on BYC.

Thankfully the sister sites (including BYH) don't have all the patches that were applied to BYC so we'll go a little bit further but in order to keep us from crashing we are being kept basic. We want a breed database...and we're building a makeshift one here but when we convert we'll have a easy to build / use / search breed database (that's just one of the great features that we'll gain). We want a true classified section and we'll get that too.

Beekissed I'm sorry that you're dealing with a glitch on BYC, but I believe that there are no less than 2 staff members and a technical team working on your image issues.

The new platform is intuitive so you do have to use it a little bit for it to "work" for you. There will always be minor complaints when something gets changed...these can usually be resolved fairly simply. And so far there has not been a complaint that we haven't been able to help members fix (or work around) in one way or another.
