Nope, it's her fourth kidding I think - she's an old hand and doing quite well.
Went out a bit later and then Stella (who was due tomorrow) had twins on the ground - we were only expecting one from her - she had a boy and a girl - pics later.
So five doelings and one buckling so far and have one more doe left.
I went out yesterday evening to make sure everyone was getting enough food and saw Stella (due today) stringing more - she had not been showing any sign whatsoever of kidding. I ran in to get boots, call my cousin (who ADORES Stella) and more towels.
Came out and it wasn't labor. The dolt of a goat had given birth IN THE MUD. The babies were covered in it but not covered in their birthing sac. So I moved them to the barn, called out to Mom and started to wipe them down and get Stella in the barn. She had been chewing her cud half an hour before and I think she barely stopped eating hay long enough to give birth.
This was worrisome as this is her second freshening and she refused to take care of her baby last year. She was not as intent as Birdie but she was working on taking care of them now and they are feeding.
All I have to say, she is a dolt but she throws gorgeous babies.
This is Larry the Buckling. A lot of L names because my baby brother (who is 2 next month) has an easier time of saying L names than anything else. I don't know if we are keeping him, selling him or what. This picture does not do his coloring justice. He's a lovely pale gray.
This is Jaina, I'm impressed with her coloring big time.
The mother INSISTED that I need to take a picture of her too!
I've been so busy with my own bottle triplets that I haven't been able to look at all the baby goat threads.....just found your pics and they are adorable!!!
Is it me, or does it seem like there are a lot of triplets out there this spring?
