I have two Nigerian Dwarf goats, Itsy and Bitsy. Yesterday, I started hearing odd noises and realized that they were coming from Itsy. She seemed to have a great deal of abdominal distress, but you could almost see it work it's way from her belly up to and out her mouth. Her tail was down and wet, but that was the only other sign that anything was wrong. I gave her baking soda which seemed to help a little.
The only thing I have come across that might cause this is bloat, but nothing that I've looked at describes any sounds that go along with that! This goat is not listless...she eats, drinks, plays, chews her cud, poops with no issues, etc... This morning, her tail was back up and she seemed to be feeling better, but the sounds were worse!
She makes her normal sounds, but then sounds like a bleating sheep in between, with a lot of other odd noises. Her left side looks a *little* more distended than the right, but not a huge deal more than normal...they are always un-even and so are her sister's. I tried to massage the rumen as suggested online and she absolutely HATED it!!! I've never seen her so mad! I can massage the same place on her sister, who doesn't mind it a bit.
I gave her some "Bloat Release," I think it was and it might have helped some, but she is still making the odd noises. It would be helpful to know if I am even close on this, or if I am way off base.
Can anyone help?? I am a newer goat owner, and could really use your expertise.
Thanks.
Jennifer
