Sounds like you have a long night! At least you got to bucklings from all the work and lost sleep. Congratulations! Ready to see some pics when you get a little rest!:thumbsup

I find I have way more that kid during the day and especially the afternoon into the evening. I rarely have one kid at night. I did have 2 does out of the last 16 kid in the middle of the night this season and sadly I lost one of the 5 kids to the cold, because I have gotten used to them not kidding at night and I didn't do a middle of the night barn check.

I know technically they can kid any time, but having 2 out of 16 kid between 10 pm and 7 am is a good example of what is normal on our farm. I don't know why it is that way.

We had 23 does kids last year, and I bet there wasn't 2 in the entire bunch that kidded in the middle of the night. I have noticed this many times and have wondered why.

I had someone tell me that it depends when you do the majority of your feeding. They are more likely to kid on an empty stomach.

I personally think it is nature. It is warmer in the afternoon and the kid has a better chance of surviving and nature knows this. The doe goes into labor during the warmer part of the day. That is just a guess.

Meet Moose & Rocky (Moose is the bigger one with the white spot on top of his head). I think these two will round out my ideal pack string of 6 or 7 goats (in about 3 or 4 years). Mom is full Alpine & Dad is a Kiko. I think that will be a good pack goat mix!
