Hubby was grumbling to a friend last night about our state and how he'd like to leave. He said he'd probably go to Texas if we could afford something with acreage. I don't want to leave. I don't want to have to deal with excessive heat or snow, or tornadoes or other crazy weather. We have a pretty great location where we are at, except the government is a bit nuts.

I was playing around on a family tree site and found my paternal grandma's family is from Kentucky. Hubby's family is from Kansas and Georgia, plus we have more immediate family currently in Florida, Texas, and Tennessee. My maternal side is apparently from New York and New Jersey, plus a few other states I think.

I think it would be cool to figure out a road map where we could do a road trip and see these places, especially if we could find extended family to meet. My dad's side used to have huge family reunions every few years but I think all the folks who planned that and kept everyone together have passed.

Here I am feeling bad I haven't watered the garden or checked on the seedlings for over a day
Just remembered that I planted tomatoes last week then went away for the weekend! Hope they are still alive.

If you get to northeast Texas next year, come see us. We will have a guest room since we won't have our son, DIL, and 2 grandbabies living there.

I have no clue when or if we'll actually get to do a road trip. I know hubby wants to, he did quite a few with his parents when he was growing up.

Walmart had the kerr brand regular mouth lids on clearance for $2!!!! They are normally $4. I bought a whole flat of them... :hide

I still have yet to actually can anything... They also had the boxes of lids with rings marked down about half too, I got 2. I now have a decent size stockpile of canning stuff for when I finally get the time and guts to try it.

Speaking of canning stuff, I snagged this screenshot of a picture from a canning group. This looks really awesome, but I think I'd add a rail to keep the jars on the shelves. It also looks like it would be a good idea for bookshelves too. Just need really good casters to make it roll smoothly.

That is really neat..... lot of storage in tighter space... and staying clean.... yeah, calif earthquakes and stuff would make me want to put some rails on it.... Can you share the name of the canning group? Always looking for places to research and such...
It is a group on FB, Canning Rebels Public. Looks like there's a ton of people in the group and they help each other with questions and suggestions and recipes. I think I'm going to spend a bunch of time just scrolling their posts and learning stuff.

Found a post from a few weeks ago that they had similar sale on the lids at a Texas Walmart, but marked down to 50 cents each a few weeks after the half off clearance. I guess I'll just need to keep checking to see if they put them further on sale. Not that I need more lids, but if they jump into my cart there's nothing I can do to stop them.. right? :D =D

Canning is fun. I was a little gutless about pressure canning (I'd already done a lot of water bath canning) but it's a cinch (ok I wimped out and got the Presto electric pressure canner) and what you can is soooo much better than store bought. And another way to use up all those zucchini  (marmalade, relish, pickles, etc)
