We spent almost 300 dollars yesterday at home Depot getting supplies to automate the water system for the garden. I'm hoping to set up a bunch of it on the evenings this week. I think this will save a lot of time watering, and maybe make the plants a little happier.

I think the deer have kept out of the garden since I sprayed the perimeter, need to do another round today. Then it should be good for a month.

I picked up a moisture meter with a long probe from Amazon. We've got a drip system for the garden boxes and irrigation for the fruit trees. I checked the garden boxes when i ~thought they needed water and surprise every box was "moist" toward wet in the rootzone. :) Now I'll check with the meter before turning the drip on.
This is the one I got .....

I bought a moisture meter over a year ago, and someone helpful hid the box in a safe place for me and I still haven't found it. I have held out buying a new one so far. Someday I'll find it.

What kind of roof do you have and what are you putting back on?
It's a shingle roof and we're replacing with a shingle roof. It's not going to look pretty cause we are going to use several colors of shingles (free).

On our someday house, we want a copper metal roof, and the walls would be made out of Perfect Block.

I like free. Maybe you can make a design with the shingles. Fun! Shingle stripes?

What are Perfect Block?
Perfect Block is a styrofoam concrete building block, I think they are made in Arizona? There's a few other brands out there. Basically they make a mix with the concrete and recycled styrofoam and make blocks with it that can be put together almost like Legos. But there's a channel built into the middle of the blocks, so you add rebar for additional stability and then pour the channels full of concrete. The channels are like a lattice, so the resulting wall is very strong and it also has a very good insulation R value. The block is very fire resistant too, so it seems like a great building material for California.

*Just spent about 5 minutes trying to remember the word rebar...
