I have solar powered motion activated lights at the bigger barn out in the pasture, chicken barn and smaller barn closer to the house are fully wired. With all the walking I do in between barns before light and after dark I use a fancy, dancy, oh so stylish head lamp. (cuz my hands are always full)

For my unlighted areas, I use a battery operated lantern I can hang on a hook. I just use it for general chores, it wouldn't work for milking or major chores.

I have no power to the chicken coops, rabbit cages are in a barn with power, goat shed has one small light, although there is an outlet if I need power for some reason.

I don't provide artificial light for the animals at this point, although I may need some weak lighting if I breed the goats. For walking outside I grab one of my many flashlights if the sky doesn't provide enough light to see where I'm going ( I like being outside in the dark)
I suspect goats, just like everything else, can 'do it' in the dark just fine.

@frustratedearthmother I never thought of a headlamp attracting bugs. I don't care to wear them, they are hot, but now that you mention bugs I like them even less. I hate beetles that fly and have sticky legs that could get caught in my hair. :barnie

One of my headlamps, the one I like best(!), has a red light that doesn't attract bugs. Unfortunately, red light isn't as bright as white light... Good thing I know my way around my place, lol!
