OK so 10 pigs were delivered wednesday night - Yes that is how the story begins :)

So to keep Ditto and Bailey safe from being eaten by the pigs they had to be penned up in an enclosed barn. Not a whole lot of airflow, no outside time, etc.

I know they are stressed because they are much more voal than normal, especially Ditto who is real people/ goat clingy. Ditto also ate almost a cup of " goat treats" the licorise flavored ones ( Ditto is around 40 lbs) and they got more feed than normal Friday due to some one other than me feeding them on Thursday and Friday.

Now Ditto had the runs. Not running out of her runs but definately liquidy. She is not running a fever, she is still eating hay, she is still very active, nice pink gums, and eating the tiny bit of grain when offered to her( only giving her tiny bits). Could it possibly be the stress of being penned up, the funky diet she has been given?

I treated her and Bailey with Di-Methox a few weeks ago as a preventative.

I went ahead and gave her priobiotic yesterday when I noticed it and some again this morning. I also gave her Safeguard. Is there anything else I can do? or should I just keep an eye on her? Her schedule should go back to normal today ( here in a few hours)

I would keep giving Probios for about a week.
Thank you greatly.

That I can do. How often should I be giving them and how much?

Any thing else I should give her? B 12? Red cell?

Well, the Vitamin B's never hurt.

Also keep a very close eye on her temp. An increase could be an indication of overetaing disease or a bacerial infection.

I would give her spectam scour halt/Gaurd for pigs as a precaution for bacterial scours.

i would NOT expect dietary scours to last more than 24 hours. So Monday, if she is still scouring I would bring in a fecal to the vets. If she starts to look weak and flimsy today. you can offer her supportive care with electrolytes and B shots and more probios. If you decide you just have to treat her, because she is going down hill fast, then gather a fecal and put in fridge for Monday and start treating with what you have.

any chance you have C&D antitoxin on hand or know where to buy some??

Whenever anybody in our herds (we have both sheep and goats) has diarrhea, it's usually coccidiosis. They tend to show no other symptoms, and then go downhill - fast. We put Corid in their water. If Ditto doesn't tighten up in a few days with the current treatment, maybe it's coccidiosis? Especially since you just introduced pigs?

Coccidiosis can easily rebloom within just 14 to 21 days after treating, so I agree, I certainly wouldn't rule out coccidiosis.

Ditto has been out in the field all day with the rest of the herd. Her butt for lack of a better word is now dry. The scoots that she has did not start till yesterday evening.

She is holding her tail up again and running through the field. Still has an appetite and still no signs of a temp.

The ten pigs are now gone. Well not gone but hanging in the walk in :)

What would the CD antitoxin be needed for? And please dont take that as me questioning you. I am just curious. I can pick some up at TSC correct? I will be there tomorrow and can pick some up if needed

I do not have any corid on hand. Where can I get it and should I keep it to have handy if need be?

Scour halt is also on the list to get tomorrow to have on hand. My goat first aid kit is growing but still missing a few things.

C&D Antitoxin is for the treatment of over eating disease. Based on the fact that you said he ate a lot of goat treats and then was fed extra, it could have been an indication of the onset of Overeating disease. It can cause scours, bloat and a high tempurature, they can get very sick very fast from the bloom of this type of bacteria. The reason it is called or known as "Overeating Disease" Is because it is more common in over fed animals, animals that are on a lot of grain or kids who are growing really fast and being pushed really hard. But other things can cause a bloom of this bacteria, pretty much any stress factor can cause an onset of over eating disease. It is what you are vaccinating for when you vaccinate with CD & T. the CD part is overeating disease and the T is tetnus. Vaccine don't always work. The C&D antitoxin is not the vaccine, it is the treatment. The disease progresses very quickly so having a small bottle of the medicine on hand is very important.

I think our disease section on here needs a thread on Overeating disease, I will work on one, maybe I over looke it and someone already did one, but here is a link for you to read. http://www.jackmauldin.com/health/enterotoxaemia.htm
