I bought a goat, she did NOT come with the health certificate thing I've seen on my sister's goats. I know I need those health certificate numbers to apply for a seasonal pass. I called AZDA and the lady said a livestock inspector issues those, and so I gave her my contact info, and he's gonna call me.
NOW I'M CURIOUS...WHAT WILL A INSPECTOR DO? WHAT WILL HE ASK, AND WHAT DO THEY LOOK FOR? :sick

Don't have them here, either. We get health certificates from our Vet when needed.

Our Depart of Agr had Livestock Inspectors. They go to auctions and inspect the animals, I don't know what all for though :idunno

There's been a poultry inspector sniffing around my area lately, I've been told. They apparently want to force NAIS registration, issue premises IDs, and get GPS coords for anybody with chickens..

We're planning to openly sell eggs this fall, so it's kinda like...Resistence is futile...You will be assimilated.

Ugh. I'm in Arizona. And the premise I.D s:duc is already mandatory, apparently. I applied for a seasonal pass for my market steer last year, and it was the same form and everything, NOTHING about "premise id'. This year...they're all over it.
I talked to a livestock inspector who really was a pain in the neck, and blew me off and was in a huge hurry to hang up. He assured I didn't needa health certificate. I emailed someone higher up the totem poll and she said I DO need that paperwork, so now I'm trying to get one from the breeder, and it's just so long and STUPID and tedious!
--Ok. End rant.--LOL:ya
Anyways, I just don't know why we can't be more trusting, like NC or OH. I mean, I wish the government could realize I'm just a 17 year old trying to enter her goat in her first show, and not trying to scam them while smuggling a sick animal. LOL:he :th

That's happening all over.. They couldn't get NAIS through on a federal level because of all the backlash, so they 'farmed' it out to the various state ag departments.

For instance...it's recently been made illegal to sell a goat in Kentucky without a scrapie tag. That's fine, I guess -- stupid, since the only reported cases of scrapie in goats came from goats that ate infected sheep placentas...but whatever, right? You just get the tag and move on..

Well..not exactly. You see, the truly insidious part of that whole deal is that you can only get the scrapie tag from the state, and they won't give you tags without a premises ID!

So, effectively, it's now illegal to sell a goat in Kentucky unless you register your premises with NAIS.

Yes, there's always a trick. And the tag part you just mentioned rung a bell--The lady I'm in contact with fron AZDA said that cuz my goat is a doe that I will have get her a specific "premise tag' as well. WT heck?! I'm not sure what exactly that is for certain, as conviently there's nothing on the state's website about it (I guess magically you just are supposed to "know"), but my guess is this could be another tattoo or ear tag or chip or something for my poor little goat. I think it's painful enough that poor little critters have to get tattoos (TATTOO ONE RABBIT YOURSELF, AND YOU NEVER WANNA SEE ANOTHER ANIMAL TAT, BRANDED AGAIN!), let alone get another id marker of some sort.

Check this out...my understanding of the original NAIS language basically called for every farm animal with ears to get eartags.. Cattle, goats, sheep and other such stock already get eartags so what's the big deal, right?

Well, as you might imagine, horse owners were less than enthusiastic about the idea.

Can you even imagine? :rant
