Wow. This section is a little overwhelming. I've been on SS alot and just recently signed up for this site.

We just got our La Mancha/Saanan mix about 2 weeks ago. We slowly converted her to the feed that we are giving her here and she is now (and has been for about a week or more) completely on our feed, which is pretty similiar to what she was getting before.

However in the last day or two I've noticed her stools are getting loose. And today they are even more so. She seems very healthy. Very energetic and playful and does not give the appearance of any illness as far as I can tell.

The other thing that has changed however is that she is now grazing much more here than she was at her previous home. Could this be the cause of her loose stools? I know there is a plethora of things it could be, but I was just wondering if maybe this was somewhat common for goats that are going to more grazing than their used to?

Thanks for any help or insight you have! :)

*Probably* dietary, fresh grass / new grazing will scour them sometimes.

Does she have a fever?

How old is she? (Under a year, I'd have her poo tested for cocci).

Lower eyelid color?

Probios should help clear her up, and you might put some baking soda out free choice, if they need it, they'll usually eat it.

I topdress our goats' feed w/ a probiotic powder (Optizyme) in spring to help prevent scours....also any time I deworm, treat for illness, etc.

Ummm...how do you know if a goat has a fever? She is 1 yr and one month. Eyes look ok. And we have baking soda out, are probios different?

I'll have to check into it! :)

Google probiotics, it'll tell you what it is / what it's for.
Feed stores carry Probios...it's easy to find and administer.

You take their temp rectally w/ a digital thermometer...normal temp is between 101-102.5.
