I don't think we have magpies where we are, thank god! Maybe they are picking after some kind of mites that are on her back? I know we have ravens that come and steal our eggs, too, and maybe even a baby chick or two. I never knew there was such a thing as a hen saddle, I'm going to look into getting a few of those babies! Yeah, maybe you could cover your sheep with a sheep blanket until her back heals, that way they can't pick at the open wound.

Sounds like they are causing damage, so I would shoot them for sure! :rant

Crows, ravens, and magpies ( starlings, sea gulls, etc. too ) are omnivorous ... therefore they scavenge carcasses for meat protein. When one of their clan discovers that a live animal is a source of meat protein by first pecking on a wound/ blood , the rest of their clan will follow.

That was what I was worried about....I was guessing it was just a bad habit on the the part of the birds. And yeah they'll be going bye bye. Not by me of course because I couldnt hit the broadside of a barn with a shot gun. That's really how bad I am at shooting, I could be a bad guy minion in the movies.
