Good catch @frustratedearthmother - yes, TAH make sure that the doe does pass the afterbirth... the nursing will stimulate and cause the contractions necessary like FEM said.

You can just remember you don't want to do that for next few months... if she doesn't take them then I would bottle feed.

Sometimes I have to pen my does up with their kids for a few days so they bond and the kids have a better chance of catching mom, the pens are 5x5. I have pretty much made it common practice now to leave them in the kidding pens for the first 4 or 5 days.

Seems the kiddings are still running heavily doe-centric. (Yes, I coined that word.) I think it rather fits, don't you all?

@TAH - Welcome aboard, and congratulations on your doeling and buckling. Glad that passing the afterbirth seemed to be the only problem. Now that that is done, I'm sure your doe will settle-in and be the "good mom" you said she is. Pics will be wonderfully welcome. We thrive on those around here. Can't wait to see the new arrivals. Is that mom in your avatar? Nice.
