I'd breed him to some of your commercial does first.👍
I agree - you want color so use him to produce more colored lambs. Color sells so breed him to several of your commercials and keep a couple of the most heavily colored ewe lambs from him to continue with color production.
I have a solid black ram that is so stunning, I think I’ll offer him as a commercial ram. He is second generation recordable. He is so nice, conformation wise and color.
If you can record him, can you breed him to registered ewes and move up on the generational recordable scale to registerable? Or if not, can you breed to the second and third generation recordables without losing your position as second/third generation recordable? Katahdin recording is different from dorper since only ewes are allowed to move through recordable %s until they reach purebred.

It's been drizzling all day. Not sure we will be able to get out driveway by Monday. I slip slided on way in.

Rams have to be third generation inspected and registered. As pretty as that solid black ram is, he’s only a commercial. But I have his sister and can breed her, her lambs will be third generation and eligible for registration.

The good news about cold temps and rain is that animal trails under the fence turn to mud standing out very well. The bad news there are so many! And a couple spots where the fence is flat out broken. 😱 Also in the back woods a tree came down and root ball popped entire fence about 1ft off ground. 😭
