I have a momma that kidded this morning. Her bag is huge. She needs milked. I don't want her to get mastitis... How do I milk her it without "taking" all of the colostrum? Do I just milk out like a cup, or a couple squirts, or what?

The first 12 hours is when the colostrum is used. She is still producing it though.
How many kids did she have? Are you Bottle feeding? Dam raising?
I would milk it all out or close to all and save it - freezing it in ice cube trays.

She has twins, she is nursing them, we are not bottle feeding. But she is producing more than those two can eat.

She had them this morning around 5 so her 12 hrs is up. I've heard they need 3 days of colostrum? If we milk her out, will she produce more colostrum or will it turn to milk faster? Are we stripping her of the nutritious colostrum, I mean, will she produce the same quality of colostrum if we didn't milk it out? Idk if these are stupid questions..

No stupid questions. I would milk her out until she is comfortable. I was told that I can put my goat into the dairy string after she has been milked out completely 5 times; at that point the colostrum would be gone. The kids really only need the colostrum for the first 12-24 hours.

Pictures???

Thanks guys. I am heading out to milk her now.
These are the boy/girl twins (guess which one is the boy) from yesterday morning, when it was 5*...

And you should always try to freeze colostrum. You never know when something will go wrong and you have to have it. I had the same belief when I was breastfeeding my daughter. I froze A LOT of my milk and ended up needing it for my cousin's son when she had the flu. I'm just saying it could come in handy at any time

What adorable kids, love those spots. :love But then I have been a sucker for spots for many many years, probably started with 101 Dalmatians as a child.
