I've heard it is a bad idea to breed larger bucks to smaller does. He is still young so I don't know how large he is going to end up being. Do you think it would be okay or no?
OK, I'll jump in this one and say your mini nub should be just fine for a ND doe. He is 1/2 ND anyway. I will take it all back if he is the first gen mini nub; but if he is further along in the breeding process, like say a 3rd gen or 4th gen mini nub then that should be fine.
How big was he when he was born? And is he a first generation? Even with being part ND, he has the potential to throw bigger kids than an ND would normally carry. How big he is now isn't as important as how large his genetic material say to build his kids.
He's 4th generation. He is 3 and a half months old and about the same size as my 7 month old ND buck. I got some pics of the two of them I'll post in a bit.
just wondering why you are breeding back to nd? if indeed you are trying to bring those ears down and roman up that nose..putting more nd in the equation would not help.. I would leary about the 1 gen.. his genes are still iffy.. I agree above a 2nd or 3rd gen would be fine but again you would be getting away from the nubian characteristics and ending up with crazy floppy helicopter ears!
Well, I have limited space for breeding. I have a mini nubian doeling who is still way to young to breed. So, my plan is to put my two bucks ( a 7 month old ND and 3.5 month old mini) in with my ND does and put my mini nubian doeling in with my wether so she isn't accidently bred. I doubt the older buck will let the mini breed the girls anyway but thought I would ask. Even tho they are about the same size my mini still gets pushed around by the other boy and a half(wether). Here is a picture of the mini at one day old kinda hard to determine size and a pic of him with the 7 month old ND
