Yes, you can but in the spring or indoor at this time.

Yes.
Willows are very easy even in Winter. Best to have other cuttings in the house, in an aquarium or just in a bucket of water near a window. Or lots of extras if you put them in the ground.
I have over 30 in the ground now and growing. 20 willow whips in the house and some mulberry, too. Some in my aquariums, since there's a lot of nutrition and warmth with light.

Yes, they can grow from a cutting. If you're worried about a central lead coming from next to the cut stick, they graft trees onto root stock. As long as the tree is level and doesn't fall ill or get's injured, it will be fine. I've grown willows from a 8in stick, they do fine.
If you can get a cutting that is like a tree, so an end of a branch, then it will continue to grow more naturally.

Thanks for all the info...not going to try the indoor thing for the time being with a playful young dog, but come spring, may just have to grow me one or two of these!
