My cow has a fever

last night we noticed our cow that just had her baby 2 days ago wasn't acting right, a vet came out and took her temp. She had a fever and has an infection in her udder. She got 2 shots, one for the fever and one antibiotic, we also milked her dry to clear out the ducts.

Does anyone have any experience with this? What else can I do to help her or make her more comfortable while she's fighting this. I know a few things the vet told me but any help would be much appreciated.

She is feeling much better. She's up, alert, and eating. Temp is down to 101.5 and she even left her baby with me to go to the field to eat.

It's most likely mastitis. Keep her milked out completely and on the meds that the vet prescribed. Be sure to keep the infected milk from touching the other teats. She will be OK if the infection doesn't spread.

How many quarters got infected? All advice already given is good, including keeping up with the treatments for however long the vet recommends so that she won't get a relapse or it doesn't turn into a subclinical or chronic condition. Just because she's feeling better and the fever is down doesn't mean it's completely gone or a relapse won't occur. Mastitis can be not fun to deal with especially in such heavy milkers as a Jersey. Keep the area she's in clean as well to prevent further infection, or at least as much as logically possible.

How long have you had her, and where did you get her?

And BTW, congrats on the new addition. The calf you showed in another thread is ever a cutie pie.

I know this is really late but it was the back 2 that got infected. The farmer we got her from came and gave her antibiotics and we hand milked her as often as we could since her heifer was too small to empty her and it took a few days but she got better and is still doing great and making milk for her pig of a baby.
