We dont tag our pigs as they are all named and we can tell them apart by their markings we do however clip teeth/iron/worm as soon as their out while the sow/gilt is still tranced. That way all that is left is castrating the males that need it a week or two later. We do not ear notch or tail dock as we have not found a need too. Since we have no registered stock there is no point.

We do get right in the pen with our sow/gilts but as ive mentioned on other threads our pigs are very friendly and not aggressive at all. We even get in the pen with out boar because he loves scratches and his head petted. Our boar will retire when he hits 350-450lbs and by retire i mean freezer camp retirement. Our sows retire at roughly 400lbs and go to freezer camp except my pet sow.
