My 11 year old , female, French Alpine mix goat has developed a lump under her left eye. I saw it Monday and thought she must have gotten kicked by someone. Nothing appears broken. By this morning it had grown to the size of a large egg. It is soft but firm to the touch and hurts judging by the way she reacts. It is so big now it is starting to block her vision. I called the only goat vet I know this morning but haven't heard back yet. Any Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks PS she is still eating.:(

It could be a simple subdermal haematoma (a bruise) or a localised response to an insect bite.... or something else. How is she eating and drinking? Have you been able to take her temperature? How is she behaving with the other animals? Is she lethargic?
These are all questions the veterinary technicienne ought to ask you on the telephone. The kick could have blocked her lachrymal glands (tear ducts) but taking her to see your vet sounds like the best idea.
Let us know her diagnosis and outcome if you have time. Best of luck!

I tried taking a picture with my phone but it didn't come out very well. Luckily when I went out this morning it had opened up during the night and drained. (clear liquid) I washed it really well and attempted a bandage but she didn't like that much. I put antibiotic ointment on it....

OK I never sent the message. Her face looks much better tonight. I washed it again and put more antibiotic ointment, very little drainage now. Guess I was lucky.

Thanks for your help.
