NC-Wanted to buy pigs

Hi! Here from BYC I am looking to buy 2-3 pigs to raise. would love some old spots but have not found any piglets in the area. Would like a nice easy breed since this is my first time with pigs. Suggestions definately welcome!

There are piglets on cl for sale. Several ads from different people in the Fayetteville and Raleigh area.

I am in Guilford County, Greensboro area. I was hoping to find some one realatively close by who pasture raises their pigs. I am excited to take on this venture! I hope I am ready for it!

Hi, there. I second the recommendation for CL. I often see ads for pigs there. Also, you may want to check the NC Department of Ag Classifieds. (The NC Ag Review) You may find what you're looking for there. Finally, it couldn't hurt to call your local cooperative extension and ask around. Someone may know a farmer who pasture raises their pigs. You may get a good lead there. You're sort of close to Chatham Co-- there are lots of small farmers there who pasture raise their animals and market them in Carrboro, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh. I don't know how far you want to drive, but I saw an ad for Herefords (a rare breed) listed on the Wilmington Craigslist today. They caught my eye and I'm not even a pig person.

Willmington may be too far to convince the hubby to drive for some pigs! LOL! I just finished convincing him to get them! I don't want to push my luck...he he!

Also look for American Guinea Hogs. You won't get as much meat from them, but they're docile and their meat is extraordinary.
