This was my first time having a doe kid, and it was her time too! :weee Everything is going well now, but wasn't for quite a while..:idunno

We were watching Cirque Du Soliel and over the baby monitor we heard Nellie start screaming! Literally screaming! So i went running out and she was in labor so i grabbed a ton of towels and my kidding kit. I saw a head, and so i felt around and it turned out to be the top of the head, no feet, no nose. I tried to turn the kid and get the feet forward, but i couldn't. Suddenly the baby just slides out. It was tiny and limp, no breathing, nothing. I rubbed her down with a towel and cleared her nose and throat. She was breathing but very limp. Nellie started having contractions again and a buck was born. He was stronger but still extremely tiny. I brought her some molasses water and dried the kids off more. She licked them off and was talking to them when she started screaming again. The third boy just hit the ground running.

We were up till 6 a.m trying to get the girl going but she wouldn't. We tube fed her colostrum which she threw up. Luckily she survived the night and we took her to the vets office the next day. They gave her a shot of BoSe and subcutaneous fluids, and said she was probably brain damaged and would need intensive care. She is now up and running and doing great!

But I have a question...We looked at the time when she peed and them 15 min later she had peed 5 times. Is this normal? She seems to pee A LOT. I think it may be normal but I would just like another opinion. Thanks!

Okay I'm quiet now.. :duc

Now for pictures!

I am not an expert, but I would say "what goes in must come out" I'd say it is a sign that she is getting enough fluids and her body sees no reason to retain them.

They sure are cute! I would think that she may just have a slower metabolism and once it kicked in her body has finally figured out what to do with all of the waste and is dumping it all at once. It will probably take a while for her to get regulated since she had just a slow start, but it seems like everything is functioning, albeit it may be a little confused. Give it time. If everything else is normal, like nursing, no temperature and no other symptoms she's probably okay. She will just continue to need lots of monitoring for a while until she's up and going really well. Sounds like you have a little miracle on yours hands there with Eleanor. She has such a delicately shaped face. She's really pretty. Sounds like you are doing a great job with your first kidding. I had my first kidding this year and it's nerve wracking!

Awww... a sweet set of triplets! The boys are sure handsome, and wee Eleanor certainly defines "delicate"... looks like she has to grow into those gorgeous ears of hers!

Never nice when your first birth goes a bit on the wayside, but CONGRATS to you and Momma... looks like all five of you came thru with flying colours!

I am not sure the pee'ing is normal. She is very small thus a runt. The runt gets the short end of the stick and so may have not developed her kidneys or bladder as well. This may be the problem. I would monitor it. It may be something as simple as just a very small underdeveloped bladder. Or may be more complicated. Her bladder may have to grow a bit before the pee'ing slows down. BUT if it doesn't, I'd take a urine sample to the vet for analysis. With the frequency of urination, it shouldn't be difficult to get a sample.

But remember, even if she is cute, she is also extra small and may have a delicate constitution. My sister, a goat owner of 20 plus years says that the small ones are often not as "thrifty" as the bigger ones so you may need to monitor her for signs of other problems... Of course, sometimes out of diversity comes a kind of unmatched inner strength worth saving and keeping and cherishing.
SHE IS ADORABLE...
