We are due to get a hot snap here later this week (90+degrees) and I'm concerned that our 12 day old kits will be too hot in the nest boxes. Is there something I can give/put them in them as an alternative that might be cooler?

Mine jump out of the box at 10-14 days. Sometimes I put in a kitty litter box with short sides for a bed.

Slip a frozen / cold water bottle in with them under the bedding. Or a frozen gel pack. Something they can't chew through and will stay cool (but not too cold) for a few hours. Change as needed. We do this with our rabbits all summer in AZ (they're indoors but this is just a little extra).

Young kits are actually pretty good about moving the fur around and staying cool. Mine have surprised me and I don't think I've lost one due to heat in 7 years. I've made sure to keep mine out of direct sun though but still have a breeze going through.
