Okay so I woke up to this beautiful little girl yesterday morning. At first I had some trouble getting the mother (Freya) to nurse. Now that I've got that under control I have a question. I have been reading and I've seen some people talk about the utter/bag and teats being hot to touch and somethign about infection. So my question is how warm/hot should her bag be to the touch? How do I know if she is getting infection? What do I do if its happening? How do I prevent it? I just want my momma and baby to be as healthy as possible!

Cute, you can definitely tell the difference between a warm utter and a hot utter. As long as baby is nursing all should be fine. Problems usually arise if nursing/milking is not being done for what ever reason. Mastitis can set in, doesn't always though. I read everything I can about goats in general and then even more on my specific breed/breeds.

Tinker Bell will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. How long should momma have bloody discharge? It is dark red in color, and smells terrible. Of course she is covered in gnats.

It can go on for a few weeks to a month. We always clip our girls backsides before they kid to minimize how much gets matted in hair. You may try to do that now, or at least clean her some.

For sure it can go on for a few weeks, but I never noticed that any of my girls discharge had a terrible smell. Might want to look into that as it could be an infection.
