Hello from Arkansas.

If you come across anyone with the last name Fiedler there is a chance they are cousins of mine. I understand I still have a few in that area. I doubt they would have any idea who I am though.

It seems like a lot of us on this site have both goats and chickens. For me the goats came first and the chickens were added last year.

Again hello and welcome,

Lisa
Hi and thanks for the welcome. A teacher at the school my kids attend is a Fiedler. I am more familiar with a couple of Fiedler from Texas (my brother in law).

Welcome from Ohio! What kind of sheep do you have?
I don't know exactly what type of sheep I have.
I started out with goats and to make a long story short the FSA office said I needed sheep before they can talk to me. So I bought sheep from an auction. Supposidly they are dorper and a few katahdin ewes where in the group. The ram is supposed to be dorper. I wanted hair sheep because I didn't want to sheer sheep right off.
My vet came out to check them over (one ewe had travel tetany - the auction was run very poorly with alot of abuse to the animals) the vet said he didn't know what they are but they weren't either of those breeds. The sheep have lost their coats either fully or partially.
The curious thing is that 2 ewes had on side red babies with white spots on their head and tales like tunis. Now they are getting white coats. They look alot like the tunis sheep my daughter got late this spring.
The kids also bought 4 Suffolk ewe lambs to show in 4H.
Any ideas? I will try and attach some pictures but first I have to take them ;)

Also I know this is an intro post but I am looking for direction on how to manage this small herd- what I should breed them to and fodder. Been thinking about getting a system to feed the animals on the farm.

Hello and welcome from West Virginia!

What all birds do you have or is it too many to list(like mine XD)??

:)

MW
We have chickens most are crosses but still some pure marens, and americaunas. We have ducks -peckins, rouen, cayuga, khaki camel and crosses.
3 turkeys a bronze tom and 2 hens that came out of a local feed barn. The tom was getting too friendly and would try and mate with anything that stood still long enough including us. The hens were the only option on short notice.
We also have peafowl and geese - saddlebacks, buff, gray toulouse, and emden. The offspring are god knows what. The mated pairs have decided to switch it up. The whole group of them are raising nest and ducklings as a cooperative.

How about you?

Greeting from Northern Colorado! Sounds a lot like my place, animals arrive before we have all the pens and houses set up
How do you like the farming life so far? I moved from Washington, DC to CO 6 years ago, it is a total life change! Look forward to getting to know you and seeing all your animals!!
I can totally relate to the life change. I went from more people than one could count to more cows than people. The smells were totally different too. I am loving it and wouldn't trade it for nothing.
Well maybe somethings... yesterday I castrated pigs for the first time. I think I cried more than the pigs. But if I want bacon this is part of the life. Pigs showed up a few days ago. Still working on finishing the pen.
How about you? What type of animals do you raise. How do you get along in the winter?
