New goat owner in the Pacific NW

Well, yes and no. He was only able to catch one, he happened upon them when mowing his fence road. I'm actually surprised he caught the one he did. He has a lot of acres so it's hard to just go out and get her, they were really wild when we got them. We all assumed coyotes got them but he said they were hanging with a couple of deer that have been grazing our gardens and orchards so maybe the deer and their wildness kept them alive. Now that she's alone, I again assume she was coyote food.

Oh, I hope not. Maybe she'll come back sooner or later.

Welcome lavslady, I just love this site. I'm learning as I go, so far I've dealt with lost goats, hoof rot, feeding, fencing, catching them and tying them to a tire to eat some browse (blackberries). It's so much fun. The best part is feeding them pellet treats with my daughter and getting them used to us.

So nice to meet you. I just found the backyardherd site last night, and was excited to see it.
You say you tied your goat to a tire to get him eat in one place...did it work? I've been having my grandkids put leashes on mine and try to teach them to eat where they walk them to...but it sure hasn't worked! They are so cute tho...lol I started a youtube channel showing my little goats being cute. Check it out. Just put in: lavslady in the youtube search box.
I haven't figured out how to put pictures up at BYH yet. I will...lol

I saw in another thread a comment that indicated you need to post ten times before you can post pics.
The tire thing sort of works but we've only tried it a few times so far. I'm just trying to get them intreroduced to the blackberries and get used to us catching them and leashing them. They hate it and get tangled because right now we just open a 15 ft section of fence to the berries adjacent to their pen..one of them is big enough that last time she never relaxed and was pulling it around.

Have you gotten used to letting them browse? I've found that if I tie up one then the other two stay close. ...but each day is different, they are getting more adventurous. I never let them browse off leash unattended, so while I'm working in the adjacent garden they brouse blackberries and reed canarygrass and I always end up with them in the apple trees or raspberries. It's so fun.

Mine have a fenced 1/4 acre of blackberries and brush to browse normally. I've got some other areas of my yard that I'd like them to clear some Ivy out for me, but have some flowers close, that I don't want them eating. So was wondering how the tire worked.
